Getting better!

“There’s nothing to do with your generation but feel sorry for you. You millennials have the shit. You can’t even afford a date. Or marriage. Or dying. Dying is expensive these days; make sure you donate your body for medical research, that’s the only way to die free these days. Think about that when your parents croak.”

These were the wise words from Wanda (Wanda White Witch Doctor as her business card says) who we met at the dog park today. But it’s ok, because she’ll write us references to help us find whatever job we want. Not that we’ll be able to find any, she assured. Our generation is doomed.

Also, we’re studying for the GRE.

Aplomb- to be strong in the face of challenge.

Our five dollar bottle of Himalayan Pink Rock Salt no longer grinds the pink rock salt. Can we bring it back? We have the receipt. Why is it that the one thing we splurged on in this entire process let us down?

Etiolated-To be sad due to lack of sun (usually in reference to plants)

Anne Marie had a job interview yesterday. Kind of. It snowed and the district cancelled school so her interview was cancelled but no one told her. But it wouldn’t have even mattered that school was cancelled because the women that scheduled the interview with her didn’t tell her that it wasn’t at the school to begin with. But she wasn’t at the place it would have been had she told Anne Marie the right place either. Because of the snow. The snow snow SNOW. So much of it, and without snow tires? It’s bad.

Ennui- restlessness due to anxiety or boredom.

Mazzy found a cat living under the house so we named it Soren and are feeding it but it bit our new roommate and scratched Mazzy in the nose. So now she will barely go outside, let alone poop, which means she just acts crazy all the time.

Nugatory- Worthless.

Yesterday we thought we were going to have to go back to Camp Chingachgook for a hot second when Reese got an email from her boss saying that she wouldn’t be able to do her position at Yale until she was employed elsewhere as well because of some rule. And we can’t find jobs. So. That was fun. (Don’t worry, it worked out)

Equivocal- ambiguous; imprecise.

We got a new roommate. He has an Australian accent, as he is from Australia. I think he wonders about our lifestyle. We would too if we were him.

Abeyance- a brief pause or state of inactivity (To be remembered by imagining Beyonce paused in the middle of a dance)

Anne Marie got a job and lost it the same day. They asked her to work the very moment they met her…which was right before she had something else to do.

Reese was supposed to work at some sports bar starting in a week or two. But the owner said it would be another month. “Or really whenever the snow melts.” Which could be in August at this rate.

Paucity-scarcity.

We both did get jobs at the climbing gym! Hooray! Right! Our compensation? Free memberships to the climbing gym! Perfect timing, Anne Marie fell off the treadmill and her ankle is the size of softball. We won’t be climbing anytime soon.

Also, the snow makes it virtually impossible to train for the half marathon we signed up for. Oops.

At least we can keep studying for the GRE.

Salubrious-healthy.

A brief aside. Some things we are excited about:
We have a house. A really nice one!
In a month the snow will (probably) be melted (maybe).
Mazzy is curled up in a little nugget-ball on the couch.
Anne Marie is going to DC to visit this weekend.
We’re going to drink wine and make art tomorrow.
We saw a lecture at Yale today by an awesome 12th grader. See her Ted Talk here! http://www.ted.com/talks/adora_svitak.html
We both have interviews tomorrow. Progress!
Anne Marie learned how to shovel a driveway.
Reese learned how to set up utilities for a house.
We made one friend. He is our roommate—see above.
We’re pretty lucky overall.

Bed.
